You know something has captured the imagination when you see it on a British Gas TVC - currently airing in the UK.

Today's must-see delicious web bit comes from Oscillator's Christina Agapakis who after seeing a trend of the popular 'Keep Calm and Carry On' poster developing into a full blown meme rife with parody and recreation, drew up an awesome family tree infographic of how the parodies have evolved.

seth nugget from 'brainwashed'

Social media is either a time-wasting, wool-gathering, yak-shaving waste of effort or, perhaps, just maybe, it’s a crack in the wall between you and the rest of the world. It’s a choice... up to you.

If you’re keeping score of how many followers you have, how many comments you get or how big your online footprint is, then you’re measuring the wrong thing and probably distracting yourself from what matters.

On the other hand, digital media can offer you a chance to make real connections, to earn permission and gain insights from people you’d never have a chance to interact with any other way.

The Real ROI

Accountability is an almost obsessive objective for most businesses. If I put this in, what can I get out? The metrics of return are hard: sales, turnover, margins, profits. Peter Drucker said that the single most important thing to remember about any enterprise is that results exist only on the outside. The result of a business is a satisfied customer. Satisfied customers get you more satisfied customers. And that applies now, more than ever. Worth remembering next time you're looking at a spreadsheet with lots of numbers on it.

consciousness awareness

In order to live effectively, we have to move our training beyond the cushion and into our relationships, our work, and our habits. We refer to these as mindfulness practices, and some of the well-cited possibilities can be eating, walking, or standing in line at the grocery store. But there are some less obvious opportunities for cultivating conscious awareness.

One such opportunity I've found is punching people in the face.

Seth's Blog: Quieting the lizard brain

The resistance grows in strength as we get closer to shipping, as we get closer to an insight, as we get closer to the truth of what we really want. That's because the lizard hates change and achievement and risk.

from George Gilder 'Telecosm' (2000)

"In a world where advertisements are read only by people who choose to read them, the quality sharply improves. Freed from the meretricious need to appeal to passing strangers, advertisers ascend to a higher cultural level. The hokiness and smarm we associate with Madison Avenue dissipates and the advertiser makes an honest effort to convey as much information as possible in as compelling as possible a style. Advertising becomes an art of truth rather than an art of deceit."
George Gilder's "Telecosm" 2000
